Accomplishments in Office

Electoral Reform

I was the lead architect of Skokie’s new electoral system, updating how our Village elections are conducted. After a year of research and considering alternatives to the Village’s unusual and inequitable electoral system, I spearheaded a referendum campaign centered around three reforms: nonpartisan elections, staggered terms, and hybrid representation. Skokie voters approved all three referendums in November 2022, and the Village Board adopted an ordinance to update Village Code in December 2023. Skokie’s new electoral system is now fully implemented ahead of our next Village elections in April 2025. Learn more.

Sustainability

I was an integral advocate for Skokie’s new Sustainability Plan, recommitting the Village to climate action. As a Trustee, I played an instrumental role in getting the Village to measure Skokie’s greenhouse gas emissions, craft a plan for net-zero emissions by 2050, and hire a full-time Sustainability Coordinator to ensure progress. I have supported new initiatives like improving composting services, expanding the Village’s tree canopy, phasing-out gas-powered lawn equipment, and more. Now more than ever before, sustainability is being integrated into Village operations and policymaking. Learn more.

Progressive Government

I have moved the needle on a wide variety of policy initiatives.  I have advocated for an inclusionary housing policy to protect and increase our affordable housing supply, supported Skokie’s co-responder program to partner police officers with social workers for behavioral health calls, helped restart the Village’s Beautification & Improvement Commission, promoted ethics reform in our partisan Legal Department, and more. Additionally, I opposed the Village Board’s worst decisions this term, like the Carvana “car vending machine” near Harms Woods and the additional sales tax at “blighted” Old Orchard Mall. As a public servant, I always strive to be a thoughtful, responsive, and forward-thinking representative for Skokie.
